Doing Dementia Differently: Dementia Care in Hunters Hill

Hunters Hill is one of Sydney’s most picturesque and historic suburbs, known for its timeless charm, leafy streets, and elegant heritage homes. Nestled on a peninsula between the Lane Cove and Parramatta Rivers, the suburb offers stunning water views, sandstone architecture, and a strong sense of community that’s been nurtured over generations. The area around our homes in Earl Street and Blaxland Street is particularly appealing, with wide, quiet roads framed by established trees and beautifully maintained homes that exude street appeal. The suburb is home to a number of cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, shopping villages and historical tourist attractions like Fig Tree House, Great North Walk, Woolwich Dock, Vienna Cottage, Hunters Hill Museum and Boronia Park.

The Videri Australia model is firmly built on the belief that people should thrive in a home environment, receiving care of the highest standard. Traditional and beautiful homes, on traditional suburban streets around Sydney, where 6 to 10 residents live together. Residents have 24-hour support including dementia care, palliative and respite care, which is provided by a team of carers that we call Homemakers.

Videri Blaxland, Hunters Hill

Videri residents living at Blaxland St, Hunters Hill, enjoy the proximity to the Boronia Park shops and parks. They enjoy spending their mornings walking to Boronia Park or going to the much-loved Boronia Kitchen for a coffee.

Videri Earl, Hunters Hill

Located very close to our other Hunters Hill homes, Videri residents enjoy the same local walks and cafes but with a couple of residents who particularly enjoy the outdoors, they spend a lot of time at Boronia Park, with a picnic lunch. Located opposite the local school, the Earl St home residents also have weekly visits with the local Kindy students for morning tea which is thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Videri Duke, Hunters Hill

Our second and newest home in Hunters Hill is tucked conveniently behind the Boronia cafes and shops. With a very social group of residents and some bird-watching enthusiasts, there are lots of outings to the local café and to Buffalo Creek Reserve for peaceful strolls and bird-watching.

The Videri Australia Home Environment

Unlike traditional aged care facilities, our Videri homes are real homes. They are warm, welcoming places nestled in local neighbourhoods. We carefully curate the group of people in each home considering each individual’s stories and passions, creating real connections in spaces they find familiar and comforting.

Our Videri home environments foster warmth, dignity and a true sense of home within the community.

Feels Like Home

Our homes are embedded in local communities with every effort made to create a place that truly feels like home. Recognisable and welcoming surroundings can ease cognitive challenges.

Power of Normal

Familiar, normal indoor and outdoor spaces, along with the comforting smells and sounds of home can significantly reduce the anxiety often caused by unfamiliar care environments.

Honouring Individuality

We support each person’s individual routine and likes/dislikes, not just as a care strategy but as a way to help you continue to live your vibrant life, just the way you’d like it.

The Videri Standard

Our homes are built not just to meet but exceed all Australian standards, so you can feel confident they’re not just beautiful, but safe and built to last, with best-practice dementia-friendly design.

Better Health Outcomes

Medical and Sector experts have recognised the ‘small household model’ as the best option for the future of aged care, referencing improved quality of life for people living with dementia.

High-touch Support

Each home has a consistent team of dedicated professionals who get to know each family well over time, building a lasting trust with the residents, their families and clinicians alike.
“Our sister has been at Earl Street only a short time, but we are so pleased that she is there. We live in Tasmania and so cannot come to see her. She has been on her own for quite a few years, living in Chatswood. For some time, her dementia has been getting worse. We had some wonderful help from our Social Worker and our Home Instead, but we knew that our sister could not survive on her own (though she really wanted to do so). The Social Worker recommended you to us. It seems to us that the staff there are so very kind. We ring her once a week, and she says she is having a very nice time there – the food is lovely as are the staff. Some of the kind staff have sent us photos and she looks so happy. We cannot thank the staff at Earl Street enough – Ella, Lester. Chen and the other folk who seem to be doing a wonderful job. We are in our seventies but would like to think we would have a place like Earl Street to go to eventually. ”

There are a number of 40+ room residential aged care providers that have secure dementia specific wards and/or Memory Support Units in the Hunters Hill. Videri Australia is the only private small household model in the Hunters Hill for between 6-10 residents living with dementia, offering 24/7 care and gold standard dementia specific expertise.
This is the best way to understand how we do dementia differently in our homes. We also recommend visiting a couple of other Hunters Hill residential aged care providers so that you can compare the environments and the dementia expertise at their facilities. To organise a tour of our Hunters Hill homes, simply call us on 1300 015 406 or send us a Care Enquiry to arrange a time that suits you.
Not all of our homes have waitlists. The success of our home environments rests heavily on the curation of a resident cohort that is matched based on shared likes and commonality. When a room becomes available, we don’t just fill it with the next person on the list. We are always interested to meet new people, to understand their life story and interests, and to see who the best new fit for the home might be. If you’d like to know more about how we do this, simply call us on 1300 015 406 or send us a Care Enquiry and one of our team members will call you back.
