We all do best when we feel at home. Larger environments can feel chaotic and unsettling, while a small, familiar space supports calm and connection. Videri’s small home model, with a small number of residents in each home, lets us celebrate each resident’s individuality, with a consistent Homemaker team and more space for your loved one to live their day as they choose. The result is better emotional and physical wellbeing.
What is a small home like?
The Videri small home model rests on three things: a consistent Homemaker team, active resident involvement in the rhythms of daily life, and an environment shaped around each individual. Our Homemakers do everything from cooking and laundry to personal care, which means your loved one sees the same familiar faces throughout the day, and real, trusting relationships have time to grow.
Residents are warmly invited into the rhythms of the home: gardening, baking, folding the laundry, setting the table, whatever holds purpose and meaning for them. They’re also warmly invited to bring favourite pieces of furniture, photos and small comforts from home. These familiar things help each person feel grounded and at ease.
Our small homes celebrate individuality. With fewer residents in each home, we can shape care around your loved one’s preferred rhythms, the small comforts they love, and the gentle changes we notice along the way, in mood, appetite or movement. Above all, residents are supported to make their own choices, in their own time.
How do small homes create big results?
A calmer, more settled environment
Many more traditional care settings can feel like a hospital or hotel, with long, disorienting hallways and constant noise. It’s no surprise that these environments can leave residents feeling unsettled or distressed. A small Videri home offers something different: a quieter, calmer space, with the kind of familiar rhythms that make a place feel like home.
Familiarity and a home-like setting
We all prefer a little familiarity. Our favourite foods, photos, TV shows and small home comforts can go a long way in helping us feel relaxed and at ease. Small homes are designed to feel just like a traditional home, with a central living room and kitchen at the heart. When a place feels familiar, your loved one can move through their day with more ease and confidence, because it already feels like home.

Increased autonomy and independence
Independence helps your loved one stay connected to who they are. That’s why life in a Videri home doesn’t follow a rigid timetable. Residents move freely through the home, step out into the garden, help with the cooking, or simply enjoy a quiet moment, whenever it feels right.

Celebrating individuality, through real relationships
Another advantage of the small home approach is that we have a higher Homemaker-to-resident ratio than more traditional settings. Our Homemakers have the time and consistency to truly know each resident, their life story, their likes and dislikes, the small comforts that matter. Life at Videri is a continuation of who your loved one already is.
And not everyone stays at Videri permanently, either. Find out about our flexible respite.
Safety, gently built in
A small home is a wonderful way for your loved one to enjoy more freedom, and the compact, intuitive layout also helps them move around with confidence. In a smaller home, residents are far less likely to feel disoriented or stray into an unfamiliar space. Our outdoor areas are safely enclosed too, so your loved one can enjoy time outside with real freedom and peace of mind.
Real benefits for wellbeing
Many studies show that people who live in small home environments enjoy better wellbeing in a number of ways.
Residents in small homes are often calmer, more engaged, and more socially connected. The simpler, quieter environment supports clearer thinking and a stronger sense of ease.
That sense of calm flows into physical wellbeing too: better eating habits and nutrition, and more confident involvement in the rhythms of daily life. Many residents also find their movement around the home improves, simply because the layout is easy to navigate and invites exploration. And the quality of life that comes with more meaningful connection and individual care speaks for itself.
Families tell us they feel it too: a real warmth, open communication, and a home that feels nothing like an institution.
